Pre-Procedure

  • It is recommended to eat something before your appointment to make sure your blood sugar levels stay stable during the procedure

  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hrs before your appointment. Alcohol can thin the blood, which can cause the skin to be hypersensitive and bleed easily.

  • Avoid blood thinning medications for 72 hrs before your appointment. This includes ibuprofen, aspirin and fish oil tablets. Please consult your doctor if this is an issue.

  • Make sure your face is not sunburnt

  • Do not get brows waxed or tinted for 2 weeks prior to your appointment

  • If considering Botox, it is best to have your brow tattooing done first. If having Botox before your treatment, please do this at least 2 weeks before your appointment

  • If you have been taking acne medications such as Accutane or Retin-A within the last year you have an altered skin condition that will not heal well after the procedure. It’s very important that you wait a year before tattooing the skin. Retinol and Vitamin A are very similar and should be discontinued to use a month prior to the procedure.

Aftercare

Proper aftercare is a very important aspect of the long-term success, effectiveness, health, and overall satisfaction with your new cosmetic eyebrow tattoo. It is very important to follow the instructions given in order to achieve the best possible results from your permanent makeup procedure. Included here are the aftercare instructions that will help limit any infection or problems, and assure healthy and successful healing as quickly as possible.

Aftercare Immediately After Your Procedure

• Use a cotton pad and clean water to pad dry over the tattooed area every 15 – 20 minutes for the first two hours, to avoid a crust forming.
• A clear fluid will weep from the tattooed area, this is to be expected. For the first 1-2 hours, wipe the brows firmly in one direction, to remove this fluid and minimise scabbing.
• You will be given a very small tub of aftercare ointment – after the two hours of wiping the treatment area, use a cotton tip to spread very, very thin layer of it over (use a fingernail sized amount) to sooth and protect. Using too much is detrimental to the healing.
• Apply the ointment 3 times a day or more if you feel dry and itchy – if your skin (t-zone) is very oily, do not apply it at night.
• Tepid showers are ok but don’t soak the brows or get any shampoo, soap or cleanser on the area for 7 days (use a towel or sponge to wash your face) – this could be detrimental to the bonding process that must take place for the pigment to stabilize in the skin.

What to avoid after Eyebrow Tattoo – Day 0 – 14

• MOST IMPORTANTLY – do not pick at the brows. Skin may shed, resist the urge to pick, apply a small amount of aftercare ointment to smooth them down. Picking will remove pigment before it has settled.
• Avoid blood thinners i.e. Aspirin, Nurofen for 24 hours after and excessive intake of alcohol or caffeine, as this can hinder healing.
• For first week, avoid heavy exercise that will induce sweating and saunas, spas, hot baths etc.
• Avoid touching your brows with unclean hands/fingers – try to leave them alone.
• Avoid swimming, spas or saunas for 2 weeks, as this can draw the pigment out of the skin.
• Don’t apply any makeup/creams/serums on/over the freshly tattooed area until healed (i.e. foundation around the brows is fine with a 2mm gap, but using an eyebrow pencil over them or rubbing moisturizer into them is not).
• Avoid cleansers, moisturizers, serums, soaps or makeup of any kind over the area
• Avoid strong/rejuvenating skin ingredients such as retin A, glycolic acid, masks, peels or any invasive skin treatments i.e. facial laser, skin needling.
• Avoid sunscreen or moisturisers on the area at this stage; however, be very careful of the sun and avoid exposure to strong UV i.e. solariums.
• Don’t tint or dye your brows, have brow lamination or waxing/threading done until brows are totally healed.

Avoid long term

• Avoid aggressive/rejuvenating/exfoliating treatments directly on the tattooed area – i.e. peels, laser, microdermabrasion, glycolic acids (just avoid the eyebrows, can be used but with care)
• Avoid UV exposure especially facial tanning, use a sunscreen over the brows – once healed, they can fade fast if exposed to lots of UV rays.
• Avoid exfoliating the area too much – exfoliation = skin renewal = faster fading. Just wash your brows gently.
• Avoid regular brow tinting – the peroxide in the solution will fade your tattoo more quickly. Henna is a better option if you are trying to darken grey/blonde brow hairs – it is much
gentler.

Lips Tattoo Before and Aftercare

If, after reading this aftercare, you are unsure of anything, please feel free to contact us and we will be more than happy to help!Anything related to cosmetic tattoo, contact Kay directly on 0401 860 088 or Facebook message to either ‘Bi Hair Beauty Salon’ or ‘Tattoo with K’ page.

Pre-Procedure

  • It is recommended to eat something before your appointment to make sure your blood sugar levels stay stable during the procedure.

  • Avoid alcohol for 24hrs before your appointment. Alcohol can thin the blood, which can cause the skin to be hypersensitive, and bleed/ bruise easily.

  • Avoid blood thinning medications for 72hrs before your appointment. This includes ibuprofen, aspirin and fish oil tablets. Please consult your doctor if this is an issue.

  • If you have EVER had a cold sore (even just once in your life), you will need to take an antiviral medication prescribed by your doctor at least 3 days before and after your lip blush.

  • You may like to take an antihistamine tablet before your procedure. This can help reduce the swelling. Consult with your pharmacist or doctor first.

  • If considering lip fillers, it would be best to have your lips tattooed first and your fillers injected after. If you implant colour too soon you will be implanting colour above the natural line. When the lips shrink and return to normal size, the lip line will be off.

Immediately afterwards

Your lips will look more vibrant than they will heal, and they will be swollen. This swelling will subside over the next few hours. There may also be some numbness to the lips and mouth – so avoid hot beverages/ food until the numbness has worn off.

Apply aftercare balm every hour or as often as possible to keep lips moist for the first 10 days. This will help with tenderness, as well as holding in the colour. If you do not apply enough balm, your lips will become tight and pigmentation will come out.

Important Reminders

  • Always apply your aftercare balm before showering to protect your lips from the water

  • Do not pick, wipe or lick lips. They will exfoliate on their own, usually after 3-4 days

  • Avoid greasy, spicy and oily foods as well as citrus fruits and juices for the first 7 days as this can change the lip colour

  • Do not use citrus/fruit based lips balms or lipstick until your lips are completely healed (approx. 4 weeks)

  • Be careful when cleaning your teeth for the first 7 days. Toothpaste can pull the pigment colour out of the lip vermilion

  • No kissing or direct water for 3 days (drink through a straw)

  • If you are taking cold sore medication, please continue to do so for 5 days post treatment

Important
If a cold sore does start to come up/tingle, please treat is as soon as possible with patches and/or seek pharmacist advice regarding medication. Untreated coldsores will result in pigment loss.
Although we cannot recommend this medically, some clients that are prone to cold sores do like to apply a cold-sore cream after the treatment for the following few days as a preventative.

Avoid:
Caffeinated beverages or alcohol on the day of treatment
Blood thinning medication on the day of treatment (nurofen, aspirin etc)
Kissing 10 days post treatment, this can cause infection and pigment not settling
Very spicy or acidic food at least 7 days (use a straw if drinking anything other than water)
Very hot (heat) food or drink for 7 days
Brushing teeth after the treatment on the same day (wait till the following day) – be very careful not to get toothpaste on the lips
Picking the crusts; allow to fall off in their own time
Swimming, sauna or spa/steam exposure for 2 weeks
Heavy exercise/sweating for 2 weeks
Cosmetic treatments like lip filler for 2 weeks
Applying lipstick for X days or lip plumping serums for 2 weeks

Pre-Care Instructions:

  •  Wash your scalp with a non-abrasive, gentle shampoo the week prior to your procedure. If experiencing breakouts on your scalp please see a dermatologist or appropriate medical doctor to resolve this issue prior to your procedure.
  • After washing the scalp, moisturize the skin with some form of skin moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated. Doing so will allow the ink to be properly absorbed.
  • Refrain from sun tanning to avoid burning and peeling of the skin.
  • If you are extremely sensitive to pain, mention before treatment for possible options or seek medical advice prior to procedure.
  • You may bring a clean hat or scarf to loosely cover your head after the treatment, if so desired.
  • Please do not wear a hair piece at least 10-14 days prior to your scheduled procedure. As wearing a hair piece may limit oxygen flow to the scalp and the ink may not be fully absorbed into the follicle.
  • Please do not use a razor on your scalp within 24 hours of the scheduled procedure. It is critical that we see all native hair in order to properly blend the hair follicles.

For Seven Days After Procedure:

  • Do not touch the healing pigmented area with your fingers, they may have bacteria on them and create an infection.
  • Apply your favorite antibiotic ointment or Vaseline 3-5 times daily until the procedure area has healed. Always use a clean cotton swab and not your fingertips.
  • No make-up, sun, soap, sauna, Jacuzzi, swimming in chlorine pools or in the recreational bodies of water, contact with animals, gardening for 7-10 days, (until area is completely healed) post procedure and after all touch-ups.
  • Before bathing, gently apply a light coating of Vaseline on the procedure area using a clean

cotton swab. Continue this regime until the procedure area has completely healed.

  • Do not rub or traumatize the procedure area while it is healing (pigment may be removed along with crusting tissue).
  • Use a “total sun block” after the procedure area has healed to prevent future fading of

pigment color.

  • Do not use products that contain AHA’s on the procedure area. Example: Glycolic, Lactic Acids. Always check your product labeling, it will fade your pigment color!
  • If you are a blood donor, you may not give blood for 1 year following your Permanent Make-up application (per Red Cross).
  • Touch-up visits should be scheduled between 30-45 days post procedure. All
  • Permanent Make-up procedures are a two-step process. Results are not determined until touch-up application is completed.
  • If you have any questions or concerns please notify your technician immediately.
  • If you experience any itching, swelling, blistering or any other complications post-procure, stop using product and call your technician immediately. You may be allergic to the aftercare product you are using!
